It Takes One to Know One
I can see you, you know.
I know you think you're cleverly disguised,
in my rational misguidance.
But I see you dangling the carrot
of tomorrows and next times before me.
You've been on this journey the entire climb
and with everybend in the road
you try your tricks on me.
You know I see glimpses of the fruit and bounty
through the trees beside me,
and you use those signposts to drag me off course.
Yet you underestimate my will to forge ahead.
And when I do, you are left alone.
A distant memory, your trek marks left for dead,
in the crusted earth ready for another day of mine.
